Saturday 15th March
(15.03.08) Well first thing this morning it was pretty miserable here. The only polar low visible in the satellite images was in the Russian sector, and it looked to be staying put there.
-
Friday 14th March
(14.03.08) Today was a busy day for Øyvind Sætra, who was called upon to give no less than three lectures about our project in as many hours.
-
Thursday 13th March
(13.03.08) It was the morning after the night before and the operations room seemed a little quiet.
-
Wednesday 12th March
(12.03.08) In order to capture the strong winds off the coast of Nordland and Trøndelag today it was necessary to have an early take-off, between 07-08UTC. Flight planning therefore recommenced at 5:30am, although I've heard that only a brave few helped with this. Also with an early start was Ivan, heading off to Narvik to go hunting in the wilds of Norway for a few days.

Tuesday 11th March
(11.03.08) Today's flight is a transit flight from Keflavik back to Andenes. We also wanted to use this time to do science, and found ourselves spoilt for choice of what to study.

Monday 10th March: Barrier Jet at Greenland
(10.03.08) The plans for the Falcon in Iceland are evolving as usual. There are several plans for the flight today, and which is executed will depend on the cloud cover over the moorings in the Denmark Strait.
-
Sunday 9th March: Barrier Jet at Greenland
(09.03.08) Weather Outlook: Strong winds near the Greenland coast, northerly flow returning to the Nordic seas at the end of the week. Flight plan for tomorrow: Fly over the mooring site or down day.
-
Saturday 8th March
(08.03.08) After a visit to a local bar last night it was impressive to see everyone up for breakfast this morning. Work started immediately on analyzing the latest forecasts to decide the plans for the coming days.
-
Friday 7th March: Learning About LIDARs
(07.03.08) Weather Outlook: Barrier winds in Denmark Strait at weekend, no flights around here until mid-next week. Flight plan for tomorrow: Either transit flight to Iceland or down day. Possibly some targeting incorporated into the flights around Iceland.

Thursday 6th March
(06.03.08) We started the day by saying goodbye to Vanda, who began her long journey back to Colorado this morning, after helping Idar to finalise the plans for today's flight.
-
March 5: Down Day
(05.03.08) After two days of hard work planning and analyzing our polar low case we took the day off.
-
Tuesday 4th March
(04.03.08) If you chose to visit Nord-Trøndelag today, you made a bad choice! Making landfall is a polar low with strong winds and high waves.
-
Polar low measurements
(03.03.08) During early morning an exciting and tense atmosphere was over the operational room as the scientists carried out the last adjustments to today's flight track.
-
Sunday 2nd March
(02.03.08) There was no flight today, for technical reasons. The brakes on the Falcon needed replacing, and this task was done with great speed by aircraft technician Alex this morning.
-
Our third flight!
(01.03.08) Even though it is Saturday everybody started their work at 0800AM. During campaigns everybody works hard and works long hours in order to work out the mystery of the mesoscale weather!

Touring Andøya
(29.02.08)Today was our first day off during the campaign and Gudmund had managed to organize a coach tour of Andøya and the neighbouring island of Hinnøya for us.
-
Our second flight!
(28.02.08) The planning during Wednesday went really good and everybody was pleased that on Thursday we were going to measure the (quoting Mel and Jon Egill) "double vortex along a reverse-polar front".
-
Our first flight!
(27.02.08) After a brilliant display of the northern lights last night our attention this morning was focused back to a lower part of the atmosphere as the flight planning team finalised the details of today's flight.
