Friday has been like back to school. We have had three lectures in the
operation room as well as a nice trip to the Alomar observatory. I dare to
boast that I think I understood a little of what was said. Though I missed
the part where we got explained how beer cans can be used to measure
aerosols. Well, whatever. At any rate we thank Michael and Sandra for the
excursion to Alomar, and especially for the hilarious trip down again.
That really tickled.
Most of our German friends chose the sportsmanship of walking up the
mountain, Christian even with his skis. He selected another top, met some
locals, chatted and stayed up there for ever. Funny guy.
In yesterday's letter I forgot to tell that the film crew took Øyvind out
to the sandy beaches at Bleik for an interview. They are desperately
searching for locations other than the operation room, and a beach seemed
appropriate for an oceanographer. During the interview (it is said; I have
not seen it myself) he wrote beautiful equations in the sand. Thus he
probably stumbled upon the very truth of both forecasting and flight
planning: written in sand, written in sand.
Mel left us today. If you have a wireless connection at your Gardermoen
hotel (and you should to that price): Ho ho, we miss you.
Else for the record:
* Some hours of flight planning and discussions with Haraldur in Reykjavik.
* Cod tongues for dinner.
* Admirable work to solve problems with the ground power unit and the
lidar storage. Hope all's well tomorrow.
Tomorrow (i.e really today) is the international women's day. We celebrate
this by adding Berit and Beathe to our team. (Although Trude will leave;
still one plus.) Also Matthias will arrive here. Welcome to you all.
