But here are some highlights from Sunday's activities, just to prevent the
worst symptoms of abstinence by our readers.
The white beauty left us for a trip to the blue lagoon. Discussions are on
every second hour on details of her activities far west. Flight hours
might be running short, and yesterday's breakfast discussions were much
about how to finance additional time. The conclusion seemed to be to file
an application to the Sami parliament for funds, as better forecasts of
adverse weather could help avoiding freezing rein (!!).
The skies were filled with the most amazing cloud structures, making more
than yours truly sad for the lack of possibilities to take superwide
pictures. Erik, as a semipro photographer, seemed to have his best day
ever. Fode used the time as sole representative of pro-journalism to film
Ivan running in the wind. Tomorrow he will shoot Andreas D swimming, as he
has promised to swim to Iceland to get the Beauty back in case Haraldur
refuses to return her. (Go for it, Haraldur.)
Astrid returned after a homely week, a little scarred in her motherly
emotions by the fact that her daughter had become more like a dad's girl
during Astri's first week here. Later on also Torsten arrived, just in
time for our Christmas celebrations. Sunday dinner was namely pinnekjøtt
(which according to wikipedia is pinnekjøtt also in English).
Some of us had a brief downtown excursion to the lighthouse, where we were
allowed to enter the top. Magnificent views, but quite hard to stand still
enough in the wind to get good shots. Also a visit to the small polar
lights museum. Learnt that they were once called the herring lights,
because they were believed to be reflections of fish swimming in the sea.
The entertainment group had moved from boring Venus to not so much more
exciting Jumpers, a science (!!) fiction thing running at the public
cinema. Someone clearly has a plan to make model animations the most
dramatic you can ever want to watch.
Easter is approaching, and tonight I had the pleasure of seeing
whitecoated hares twice.
Later today Christian and Idar will reenter the scene, and two newbies are
also expected: Erlend and Harold. Mel has reported to be well back in
Boulder and sends his best.
Perhaps more tonight ...
